The China-ASEAN Expo is co-sponsored by China and the 10 ASEAN countries as well as the ASEAN Secretariat, is the only international trade fair which themes on the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area (CAFTA) and aims at promoting the reciprocal cooperation and common development of China and ASEAN.
The visitors include manufacturers, importers & exporters of Kitchen wares, Home Electronics, Appliances, Bathroom Items, Furniture, General Gifts, Personal Accessories, Home Repair Items, Home Decoration, Leisure Items, Sports & Health Items & General Public.
Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping attended the opening ceremony and some other important activities. Foreign leaders from ASEAN countries include Myanmarese President U Thein Sein, Lao Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong, Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Mohamad Yassin and Thai Deputy Prime Minister Kittiratt Na-Ranong.
Meanwhile, the protests were large and sometimes angry, but appeared much better controlled than those over the weekend, which included extensive rioting and vandalism. Many Japanese businesses closed for the day, and a strong police presence seemed to prevent damage.
Meanwhile, China and Japan are disputing over a desolate jumble of rocky islets in the East China Sea. Beijing has deployed a fleet of paramilitary patrol ships while similar Japanese vessels steam out in response.
